The Problem
Not all ECUs are rebuilt equally. Not all ECU rebuilding companies are the same. Major problems with other companies include:
No Return Policy
Why should you keep an ECU you don't need? The fact is that most ECU rebuilding companies do not accept returns once you've placed your order--even if the problem you thought was a bad ECU turned out to be something else.
Problematic Rebuilds
Another unfortunate fact is that we commonly rebuild ECUs which have been previously "rebuilt" by other companies. Because the corrosive acid that caused damage in the first place wasn't thoroughly neutralized and properly cleaned, the ECU fails again shortly after the warranty expires. The symptoms were treated with new capacitors and a quick repair-patch without eliminating the underlying cause of the problem.
Lack of Testing
Intricate engine management systems require thorough and extensive testing after rebuilding to ensure that all problems are fixed. Although a "rebuilt" ECU may start a vehicle, damage to secondary circuits, such as the Idle Speed Control circuit, can exist and cause frustratingly annoying idle-related problems.
